tip of the month
summer static
Humidity can cause static in straight hair. After you moisturize, run your palms over your hair. The leftover moisturizer will smooth the flyaways.

Question.
My mascara smudges like crazy, especially in the summer. What can I do?

Answer.

Whatever the reason or the season—summer heat or menopause—sweat makes mascara more likely to smudge and run like little raccoon tracks beneath your eyes.

To avoid:

• Wipe the wand on the sides of the tube before you apply, so that it doesn't get gunky. Then, roll it out on your lashes, from the base to the ends.

• Apply mascara only to the top lashes.

• Let one coat dry-give it a good 30 seconds-before you apply a second.

• Brush through your lashes with an old toothbrush or eyelash brush.

GREAT TIP: Try waterproof mascara in the summer, or the makeup artists' cult favorite, Kiss Me Mascara, which never smudges because it can't. It coats each individual lash and stays there, and when you wash it off, gently press your lashes and you'll see little individual lash casings come off in the sink!
